NOTABLE RESOLUTIONS AND MEASURES PASSED AT THE FULL COUNCIL MEETINGON JULY 10, 2024
BILLS & RESOLUTIONS ADOPTED
Bill 9 (24) - Relating to transportation, repealing the outdated and obsolete Tour Services ordinance.
Resolution 24-107 - Requesting the City Administration to take the steps necessary to acquire North Road's non-city and non-federal portion.
"Resolution 24-107 reaffirms the Honolulu City Council’s dedication to our communities' health, safety, and well-being. The neglected, privately owned section of North Road poses significant public safety risks to Ewa Beach residents, who use it daily despite the absence of sidewalks, street lighting, and the prevalence of illegal dumping and abandoned vehicles. Together with the Ewa Neighborhood Board and various government agencies, we have formed a Task Force on North Road Management, conducted regular clean-ups, and installed speed humps. Despite these efforts, the road continues to be unsafe, and we believe that the City acquisition of North Road is a crucial step to ensure the safety of our community." – Vice Chair Public Safety Committee, Councilmember Augie Tulba
Resolution 24-167, FD1 - Renaming Likini Street Mini Park to Howard Shima Likini Street Mini Park.
Resolution 24-143, CD1, FD1 - Establishing a task force on illegal game rooms.
“Until recently, there were over 100 illegal game rooms on O‘ahu, each of them bringing violence and drug abuse into our communities near our families. This isn’t an issue that can be solved tomorrow. It needs to be solved today. The council’s game room package is one part of this solution. This task force is another. It brings together everyone who can make a difference - police, inspectors, community members - so that we can act in lockstep in eradicating this issue once and for all.” Councilmember and Co-introducer Tyler Dos Santos-Tam
“Despite the fact that HPD reported this year alone officers have executed over 30 search warrants on properties known to host illegal gambling and on an annual basis confiscate around 500 gambling machines across O‘ahu, it is difficult to prevent illegal game rooms from reopening after they have been shut down because they are easily launched and are very lucrative. A more comprehensive look at the issue - from prevention to prosecution - is needed for us to create a more coordinated approach to shutting illegal game rooms down permanently and allowing our residents to feel safer in their own neighborhoods.” Council Chair and Co-introducer Tommy Waters
Resolution 24-78, FD1 - Providing for the acquisition of access easements for public use to the Kalauao (Pearlridge) Bus Transit Center and Mobility Hub.
Resolution 24-166, CD1 Authorizing exemptions from certain requirements relating to the Wai Kahe Residences 201H affordable rental housing project in Waipahu, Oʻahu.
