Eviction Mediation Town Hall for tenants and landlords

FOR COVERAGE CONSIDERATION

Sept. 16, 2021

Eviction Mediation Town Hall for tenants and landlords

Leaders invite tenants and landlords to receive crucial information

HONOLULU, HAWAI‘I ̶ Tenants and landlords left with questions following the  end of the eviction moratorium, and with a new state law in effect (Act 57), will  receive answers about their rights and responsibilities in a free, online forum from  6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. today.

Honolulu City Councilmember Radiant Cordero and several members of the  Hawai‘i State Legislature will host a virtual town hall to discuss the new state law  that extends to 15 days (from five), the required period for a notice of termination  of a rental agreement. Landlords are now required to provide notice with specified  terms, as well as to enter into mediation. If a tenant schedules or attempts to  schedule mediation, a landlord’s effort to take possession of a dwelling is delayed.

This and other, more detailed information, will be presented to attendees via live streaming on the Honolulu City Council Facebook page:
