Wahiawā District Park Gym reopening and blessing

Honolulu City Councilmember Heidi Tsuneyoshi and members of the community attended a reopening and blessing of the Wahiawā District Park Gym that has been years in the making. Wahiawā District Park has seen a number of improvement projects including rewiring of the electrical, renovation of the swimming pool, redevelopment of the skate park, reroofing of the Hale Koa room and resurfacing of the outdoor courts.

“I am pleased to be able to celebrate this momentous and long-awaited occasion for the community, that will benefit from the reopening and blessing of the Wahiawā District Park Gym,” said Councilmember Tsuneyoshi. “I am grateful to have had the opportunity to work with the Department of Parks and Recreation, the Department of Design and Construction and the community, toward the realization of these projects. Through this dedicated work, Wahiawā District Park has been revitalized and can once again be more fully enjoyed by community members of all ages ̶ and serve as a focal point in our community. I look forward to seeing the park full of life where many, many wonderful memories will be made for years to come!”

In attendance was Councilmember Heidi Tsuneyoshi, Senior Advisor Mike Sakata and Community Liaison Kelly Anaya Director Laura Thielen, Department of Parks and Recreation Director (DPR) and staff Senator Donovan Dela Cruz’s representative, David Cho Representative Amy Perruso Pastor Lori Shimabukuro – New Hope Wahiawā Lilette Subedi – Native Practitioner Members of the community and leaders from the Wahiawā Lions Club, Rotary Club of Wahiawā-Waialua, Leilehua Alumni and Community Association and WahiawāWhitmore Village Neighborhood Board Capt.Paul Okamoto from Wahiawā Police Station, Cpl. Nicholas Shane Muna and Officer Tim Iinuma from the Wahiawā Community Policing Team.

Honolulu City Councilmember Heidi Tsuneyoshi represents Council District 2 which includes Mililani Mauka, Wahiawā, Mokulēʻia, Waialua, Haleʻiwa, Pūpūkea, Sunset Beach, Kahuku, Lāʻie, Hauʻula, Punaluʻu, Kahana, Kaʻaʻawa, Kualoa, Waiāhole and Kahaluʻu. She also serves as chair of the Honolulu City Council Committee on Public Safety.
