HONOLULU, HAWAIʻI - Council Chair Tommy Waters released a memo, Community-Wide Benefit Designation related to the Maui Wildfires, on Monday, August 14, 2023. This memo designates Hawai‘i Community Foundation, Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement, and Aloha United Way as charities of community-wide benefit related to the devastating Maui Wildfires.
Council Chair Waters has issued the following statement on the memo:
Mahalo to all the supporters for coming together for Maui in their time of need. In coordination with United Public Workers, Hawaii State Bar Association, International Laborer and Warehouses Union, Pasha Hawaii, the City Administration, including Corporation Counsel, Office of the City Clerk, Department of Budget and Fiscal Services, Department of Parks and Recreation, and Department of Facility Maintenance, we were able to collect and donate several hundred boxes of medical and hygiene supplies, baby formula, diapers, food, water and other supplies for our Maui ʻohana last week and over the weekend. While the initial phase of the donation drive has concluded, the need for our kōkua remains. As Maui continues to adjust to their community’s needs and organize resources for their people, we encourage monetary donations to the following organizations as recommended by Maui County:
Hawai‘i Community Foundation – Maui Strong Fund, www.hawaiicommunityfoundation.org/maui-strong
Council for Native Hawaiian Advancement – Kāko‘o Maui Fundraiser, www.hawaiiancouncil.org/maui
